Minecraft Projects / Posting through Imgur now.
« on: November 06, 2012, 06:47:35 am »
As you folks are aware, I had been using the forum to host my images for the post I make on Reddit (/r/minecraft), in an attempt to get our Minecraft server more players and/or attention on the web.

Using the forum has had minimal success, so I tried using Imgur directly. Since then, I have whitelisted a few new players. I wil keep going with Imgur, at least for now, as that seems to have some success.

For those of you that do want to see the builds I post, they are all right here! There are currently 8 new builds posted since the last one that was posted on the forum. And, also, I love suggestions.

Minecraft Server / The private plugin for AGOA. POLL
« on: October 02, 2012, 09:12:27 pm »
Forthose of you that are not yet familiar with the plugin I am working on,  please read this!

I have put this mod on hold for now. And this is to explain why.

I really, really, really want this mod to not require a client side installation. I want everyone to be able to log on with a vanilla client and be and to play. Currently this is possible with the SpoutcraftAPI (all other available API's require a client side installation, or you die/crash). This API however, will be obsolesce soon. Not in the sense that something better is coming by (which kinda, maybe could be), but in the sense that it is being abandoned.

SpoutcraftAPI currently works as an extension of the BukkitAPI. You install it with Bukkit and it provides a lot of new hooks and functions that make great things possible. The creators of this API however want it to be more that that. Their new project will be, and is, like Bukkit (you can have a Bukkit server, and now you can also have a Spout server). It is an alternative for Bukkit, and it is planned that it will no longer be updated starting this new upcoming year.

This means that the mod would most likely not work after this API stops being updated, which means that we would only have for a very short period of time and a lot of wasted work, effort, and time on my part.

There is good news however. The ModdingAPI for Minecraft (codename: Workbench) is supposed to come out with the Halloween update. Now, I am hoping that  this API will have the needed hooks and functions needed for this mod/plugin. I am hoping for the best.

Unfortunately, it is quite likely that it will not be possible to create a plugin for the server that does not require a client-side installation. Now, I am very exited about making this plugin for us. I would gladly do it. But I need to know if you guys are willing to have  plugin that requires a client-side installation.
- If you guys do not want this, I will not make it. I will not spend countless hours making something that we do not want. I can take new suggestions for mods at that point.
- If you guys want me to still make this for us, it would require a few things for us. We will have to all install a quite small mod on our clients. If it is really that bit a pain, I can try working out an automatic installer. It would also require that we activate whitelist (as anyone without the mo installed will crash upon the client catching the first glimpse of a plugin item/block/entity). I can also add a part of the mod that check to see that people have it installed.

I am willing to do all the extra work required, I just want you all to vote and tell me what you think.

Minecraft Server / Creating Zones with WorldGuard.

Creating a new zone
This will seems like a daunting task at first, but it gets much easier as you learn how to use all the tools and commands we have available.

Step #1: Selecting a zone with WorldEdit.
*Use the command "//wand" (this will give you wooden axe with is the magical tool we will be using here)
*Decide if you need a square/rectangle region or if you need some other shape.
          *If you need a square
*right click on one corner of your square, and then go to the opposite diagonal corner and left click it. This selects the area created by the 2 points.
*type in "//expand vertical" This is expand the selected area all the way to bedrock and to the sky limit.
*If you need it to be some other shape, type in "//sel poly" (select polygon)
*Selecting polygons is very similar. You right click to create the first point, and left click to add points along the way. (I think the max is 25 points)
*type in "//expand vertical" This is expand the selected area all the way to bedrock and to the sky limit.

And that is how you select the area for the zone you want to create. It is seriously far easier once you try it. Go have a go at selecting areas. Selecting areas with the wand will have no affect at all on the map as long as you don't type in modifying commands, so I would recommend trying it out. I promise, it is much easier once you get a little hands on experience with it.

Step #2: Making a zone with your selected area.
*The command for creating a zone is "/region claim [NAME OF ZONE HERE] [NAME OF OWNER HERE]"
*This name is not visible to normal players, please name things like this "agoa_city" or "bolg'karak_keep"
*You can have multiple owners (you can also add member, which will be mentioned later) by simply adding a space then their name to the command.

There, the zone is created, it just does not do anything yet, which is why we have "flags".

Step #3: Setting flags (rules) and adding members.
*Adding members is very easy. "/region addmember [ZONE NAME] [PLAYER NAME]"

*Flags are the essence of zones, their are a lot of them, but I will cover the most important ones, and the ones we actually use on a common basis.
*The command for adding these "flags" is "/region flag [ZONE NAME] [FLAG NAME, from below] [ALLOW or DENY]
*The zone entry message is set by the "greeting" flag (ex. "/region flag agoa_city Welcome to AGOA City!"
*The zone exit message = farewell
*To stop people that are not part of the zone from opening chests use the "chest-access" flag. (set it to deny)

Extra commands if needed/wanted.
*PvP is on by default, use "pvp" as the flag if you want to deny it
*To stop non-members or owners from walking throught the zone use "passthrough"
*Mob spawning in the zone can be set with "mob-spawning"
*You can disabled tnt with the "tnt" flag. I like to do this for my zones cause I use tnt for decoration.
*You can disable the use of Flint and Steel by setting "lighter" to deny
*Some others are "fire-spread", "lava-fire",
*To stop non-members from using buttons/levers/ecs. use "use" as the flag.

Final Note.
I think I have covered everything you should ever need for creating a zone. There are other functions possible that are a not covered here (like child and parent zones, setting teleports, healing/feeding affects, as well as some other rare things. If you come across anything that is not mentioned here, you can one or both of the following.
          *Check the command documentation.
                    *Basic Commands.
                    *Flags.
*Ask me (you can txt me). You can also ask Greg.

Minecraft Projects / AGOA Market Place
« on: September 23, 2012, 03:03:50 pm »
This is the market sector of AGOA City (spawn). Originally, running_onion and I were builing this but we abandoned it very quite early into the project. I picked it up again when we got the shop plugin for the server. There is still some work that can be done, but I am done working on it at the moment.

All the shops are fully working. If you have a suggestion, please, lets hear it.

And there it is. There are a lot more shops that made apparent in these images. Almost every single house is a shop of some sort. There a TONS of things to buy/sell here.

Minecraft Server / Private mod for AGOA.
« on: September 12, 2012, 11:21:24 am »
I have started making a mod. The current name of the mod is Shards of the Fallen.

I was thinking I could make the mod be only available for AGOA. If you guys think that is a good idea, and like the idea of the mod, we can do that.

Here is what I currently have in mind. Barely anything is even close to being a final thought. I want to hear ALL the ideas!
-There would be nations, each based on one of the following ---> Fire, Water, Earth, Air. I need name ideas for these nations.
-Players would join of those nations. Shards (crystal shards) can be acquired through PvP. Defeating a member of the Fire based nation would wield you a Fire Shard, for example. I don't know how you would get your own nation's crystals. Non OP ideas would be great!
-These shards can be crafted together into the various crystals (Fire Crystal for example, one for each nation)
-These crystals are used to craft a special set of armor (which would have set bonuses, fireproof for the fire set, for example) and tools per nation. But, these items cannot just be simply crafted.
-Special nation items can only be crafted in the elemental shrines (Fire Shrine for example).
-Each nation has a (new) portal to a new dimension (so people can't cheat their way in, plus it's cool!) where you find a large shrine/temple (might even make new blocks just for making these sites very nice looking and unique). This is the only location that the nation special items can be crafted (maybe just make a special workbench, with no crafting recipe, just available in creative, to make that happen).
-More so, you cannot simple enter all these temples, you need a special key.
-Johnny suggested the "Shadow Realm" for these keys. You would need one of every type of shard to be able to enter the portal. Here there would be puzzles and traps (think a bit of adventure map stuff) to the keys. There would also be a some sort of boss available to fight here. You would only be able to get to the boss if you had a full set of any one nations armor. There would be 4 paths to the boss. One with a set of armor from the fire based nation would have to cross through lava and what-not, someone with the set from the water based nation would have an under water maze that cannot be completed with normal breath. Fighting this boss would require at least 3 people. Upon defeating the boss a single item that allows you do bound (keep on death) a nation item (that are so hard to get). I feel like there can be some exploitation going on here. Ideas please!

That is the bulk of main idea I had in mind. I would really appreciate your guy's opinion on this. Leave a comment with any issues you noticed, any new ideas, things you think should just be removed or changed. I wanna ear it all! I wanna make this for our server, for you guys, so tell me what you wanna see!

UPDATE #1

These are all the new items and blocks at this moment. Many more things already in planned and in progress.
The blocks shown in this image are made specifically for the Air Shrine, and are only available in creative mode.
None of these texture are final either(I am also referring to items not show here). Many will be changed. For example, I hate the shards....

Special items also have special name tags.

This is the center fortress on the town/city of Bolg'karak on the AGOA Minecraft server. It is not fully complete (close, but not yet), so suggestions/ideas are welcomed, especially for the interior (mostly vacant).

Interior pieces that have been done. One tower is for the dining area, and another is for the guards quarters.

Minecraft Projects / Secret Buried Dessert Tomb

Secret Buried Dessert Tomb

Denovin and I build this one day when we just had a little spur of inspiration. It's a completely hidden entrance in the dessert floor leading to an ancient tomb, with the treasures of the rich, as well as the their owners guarding them. Enjoy!

These last two images show some of the redstone, only about half of it is actually visible. We tried to make it as compact as we could get it at the time so a lot of it is behind other redstone

Comment and tell us what you think!

Now, can you find it? It's out there is the world of AGOA, so go for it!

Feedback is greatly appreciated! If you have any suggestions or improvident ideas, let me hear it!

General Discussion / Wireless Tech. Research Article
« on: June 25, 2012, 09:57:28 am »
I came across this article today.

And holy cow! That wireless speed is absurdly fast.

" In Thideís case, his team transmitted an OAM radio signal over 442 meters (1450ft)." Wireless, it transmits 2.5 terabits per second (equivalent to 320 gigabytes per second, or around seven full Blu-ray movies per second).

"For the networking nerds, Willnerís OAM link has a spectral efficiency of 95.7 bits per hertz; LTE maxes out at 16.32 bits/Hz; 802.11n is 2.4 bits/Hz. Digital TV (DVB-T) is just 0.55 bits/Hz."

My grade on any new product that uses this technology is "Shut-up and take my money!".

Minecraft Server / Another Large Group project.
« on: June 23, 2012, 11:31:45 pm »
I think it's about time we start another large group project. I know we never actually finished the old (AGOA City), so that can be what we do if you guys want.

I want you all to post your ideas, and if you can maybe an image or two showing what you are imagining.

To get you guys thinking, here are some ideas.
-A viking town
-create an adventure map
-a speed run course (kind of like the adventure map idea but without a real story line)
-a large sort of jump course in a city (think assassins creed sort of place)
-a sleef Colosseum
-a pirate island/bay (and maybe have a couple pirate ships fighting with a couple British ships)
-the Minotaur labyrinth
-a sort of Hunger Games pvp arena/map
-chinatown?
-huge steampunk airship
-an underwater city
-a city in the sky (think floating islands)

We can also...
-finish AGOA city
-connect all our bases with roads, making outposts along the way.

I want all of you guys to post your own ideas here. I will eave here for one week (about, and that is when I get back from vacation). I will then put up another post where you guys can vote for your favorite ideas. So, all of you folks go post ideas! Now!
